NZ Hops forms new partnerships to strengthen presence in Australia

An agreement has been signed with leading Australian distributor, Bintani, as exclusive distributors of NZ Hops products in Australia. The market will be further supported by the appointment to NZ Hops of Australia's very own 'Beer Diva' - Kirrily Waldhorn. Well, the frenetic weeks of annual harvest have now drawn to a close!  The 2021 harvest was largely finished by the Easter weekend, with few late bales delivered soon after. The season ran a little ‘slower and lower’ than previous years due to cooler temperatures and more pockets of rain than normal. However, we generally enjoyed mild calm weather throughout. Whilst total hop production delivered was down close to 20% versus last year, with the effects of the Boxing Day hailstorm, we’ve been rewarded with some awesome yields for some cornerstone varieties like, Riwaka™, Nectaron® and Nelson Sauvin™. Today America’s Brewers Association released its highly anticipated 2021 Beer Style Guidelines which have included two completely new styles recognising New Zealand hops: New Zealand-Style Pale Ale New Zealand-Style India Pale Ale The guidelines set the scene for brewers, beer judges and competition organisers all around the world. Craft beer drinkers can relax.

The hailstorm that hammered the Nelson region on Boxing Day, knocking out as much as one-fifth of this season’s hops crop, won’t have much impact on the price of beer.

That’s according to the co-operative NZ Hops, whose 27 growers produce most of the local hops used by many of New Zealand's 200 craft beer makers.
